So, the in-person conversations between you and your friends has slowed down to a near halt, thanks to everyone's obsession with texting, Facebook, and over-uploading pics to Instagram—socializing at its best. It could also be that you're just not interesting enough anymore in person.
Want to get your real-life-friends-turned-virtual-friends back to real-life talking friends? Then spruce up the conversation a bit with a few tricks — literally.
Not only will you liven up the non-existent conversation, but you could also make some money off your friends.
10 Bets You Will Always Win...
YouTube user Quirkology posted various videos over the years showing 10 bets that you'll never lose. Basically, ten easy tricks that anyone can do, but are hard to figure out when unaware of how to do it.
Here are ten of these tricks you can bet your friends on and never lose on (almost), with a quick breakdown of what's going on, so you can at least reveal your secret afterward (part of that interesting conversation you need). Or you can always just say a magician never reveals his/her secrets, but you should still know what's going on.
Trick #1: Catching Falling Money with Two Fingers
The reaction time of an average human being would be to slow to catch money with two fingers. The release and the money gliding down is just too quick for the human eye, thus slipping through the fingertips.
A person could actually catch it in time if they had ESP, but most of us don't, so it's safe to say you'll win this bet.
Trick #2: Pulling Interwoven Books Apart from the Spines
It may not be obvious, but interweaving the pages from two books drastically increases the weight on them. The top page has only gravity acting upon it, but the next page has gravity plus the weight of the page above it pushing down on it. As you keep going down the pages, the weight exerted on them exponentially grows.
Another factor is the friction acting on the pages. If there are 1000 pages woven together, the friction between the pages is equal to 500 times the friction between that book and a table. It would take 8,000 pounds of force to pull the books apart.
Trick #3: Circumference of Glass Equals the Height
In most cases, the circumferences of a glass is twice as long as the height of the glass, but you wouldn't think so just by looking at it. So, get a piece of rope or string and prove it to them.
Make sure before doing this trick, because it may not always be the case.
Trick #4: Turning People Invisible
No explanation needed here. It should only work for really small and gullible children.
Or really dumb adults.
Trick #5: Lift Up a Beer Bottle with Just a Straw
Just fold the straw and stick it inside.
The straw is sturdy enough to retain its shape and stay rigid, thus holding the bottle up with the help of the pressure being exerted by both sides of the glass.
Trick #6: Turn a Tea Towel into a Chicken
Just some fancy folding. If you're good at origami, you'll be great at towel folding.
Also, what the heck is a tea towel?!
Trick #7: Moving a Coin Out of Matchbook Cup in Two Moves
The key is to retain the shape of the glass and know the moves.
Most everyone doesn't think of moving the parallel matchstick for some reason, but now you will!
Trick #8: Balance an Egg
In order to balance an egg on a table, you'll need some salt on the surface. Then you place the egg on top and blow the rest away.
The salt crystals are almost perfect cubes, and they help form a pedestal that supports the egg.
Trick #9: Freak Out Friends with a Toilet Paper Tube
Not much else to say here but... FAKE POOP!
Trick #10: Make a Balancing Coin Fall into a Glass
No one thinks about blowing at it. The coin is too heavy to be altered by air, so it should fall straight down.
What kind of tricks do you use to liven up the conversation?
